Void Siege

Res Vorr'pel

Long before the Primarshals took control of the Coalition and the world splintered under the voidstorms, Res Vorpl, or Res of the Vorr'pel, was a crucial player in the Coalition politics. She was a master negotiator, a famous soldier with her service stretching back to the founding, and a deadly combatant. Res heralded from a species known as the Vorr'pel, whose numbers had been dwindling for centuries due to their inability to reproduce. Their species also seemed out of place on Sythopia, even compared to the other strange myriad of beings that populated the world.

The Vorr'pel were a metamorphic species whose form could change between a black solid and liquid. They could move with frightening speed, shifting between limb and blade to strike quickly at enemies when fighting. This formidable form had a significant drawback, however, as light of any kind would severely harm or even kill the Vorr'pel. To combat this, every Vorr'pel had an exoskeletal crystal shell that protected the form that would reside within. This form could be manipulated by the Vorr'pel and act as a second, more permanent body. Still, this shell also had an unusual drawback. In polar opposite to the creature within, the shell required a consistent light source. Without it, the shell would quickly solidify until it completely froze and could not move again until it was once again given contact with light. Each form was unique to its owner, who, in turn, could not create another. In another design twist, the Vorr'pel would also perish if separated from their crystal form for too long. One can only imagine the world these traits must have evolved on to create such a bizarre combination.

When war broke out against the Guardians, Res was more than willing to step into battle. She had lost many of her kin to the Guardians and was keen to return the favour. During the day, she would fight side by side with fellow soldiers. Her crystal shell gave her a formidable defence against weapons, the ability to punch through vehicle armour and protect her allies from incoming fire. At night, she would slip from her shell to infiltrate beyond enemy lines and charge through their settlements, braving the lights of flashing weapons and defences, cleaving her foes in two and creating chaos. It was only when the Guardians began to deploy Ziron to the fields that Res became reluctant to stray beyond the front lines. Ziron changed everything. The Guardians could eliminate their targets effortlessly, and morale within the Coalition fell into a dark abyss. Res was present at the surrender. The humiliation of defeat forever burned into her. She would never again allow herself to be beaten. She would never again give up the fight.

Soon, self-driving cars will be everywhere. But did you know there are varying degrees of automation?

By the time of the Coalition Civil War, Res was the last known Vorr'pel to be alive. Although immortal, the perils of war, inability to create offspring and difficulty regulating their forms had left her alone with her only purpose now to keep the Coalition safe against external threats. Still, now she faced a threat from within the Coalition itself. Res had been resistant to the changes proposed by the Council, but in the end, the Primarhal's simply had no choice. After the battle that decided the fates of the Primarshals, Res's crystalised form was discovered, empty, surrounded by fallen Tin-Men and rebel Gritguard. Her last moments within the Coalition were that of a being who refused to surrender again.
