For an age, the Drakkaran, or Kin of the Dark Blade, dwelled in the deepest depths of the mountains. As the centuries of isolation beneath the Voidstorms marched onwards, they found themselves altered, becoming larger, stronger, and more alien. Rothe, the first of the Void Touched and high chieftain, watched as he remained unchanged, his kin warping before his eyes. After an eternity in darkness, the rise of the Vomaran and the political and religious awakenings within the Drakkaran, the mountains could no longer hold the vast numbers of the tribes. When the Voidstorms subsided, the first Underan, Kin of Beneath (ground), set out to follow the ways of their ancient ancestors and travel the vast landscapes as hunters, but things changed. As soon as any of their kind ventured beyond the mountains and the proximity of the Drakka, its massive form protruding from the rock as a black shard, they began to wither. Like oxygen to other races, the Drakkaran could no longer survive without the presence of the Void.

For a time, they remained secluded. Their only hope of survival was to stay within caves. Still, their numbers had grown too vast, and this led to great inner conflict and massacres, as those within the mountains undertook culls to keep numbers under control. Decades of infighting only widened the divisions between the tribes, and Rothe, unable to change the fate of his race and unable to prevent the killing, looked beyond the mountains for a solution. The Voidstorms still erupted and flowed across the planet, rarer than before but still as potent. As they pushed across the sky, great masses of creatures gathered below, following the storm. Rothe noticed the ferocity with which the stampedes moved. No matter where the storms went, the masses followed, smashing into mountains, running into canyons and the lands of those who would destroy them without hesitation. Rothe realized that he was not the only life to be altered by the Void, and these herds were also at its mercy.

The Voidstorms, until now, had only been connected to the Drakka and the Voidmatter by name, but now there seemed to be a direct link. Within the storms, those lifeforms that had grown to need the touch of Void could survive. The Underan, upon receiving the discovery, did not hesitate. As soon as a storm gathered above and burst out across the land, they followed. They would never stop, endlessly chasing the storms no matter where they went, for venturing beyond the storm, they would die. They used the creatures within the stampedes in any way they could. Some creatures served as food, others as transportation. Makeshift camps were made on the largest creatures, holding entire tribes on their backs. Some creatures made for effective battering rams punching through walls and up battlements, while those that flew could be used to traverse the jagged landscapes that littered the world.

Over time, more Underan ventured out following other storms, endlessly chasing the Void. Specialized hunters learned to ‘hold their breath’ to move away for a short time and attack nearby settlements for food resources and to uphold the Drakkaran ideology of death. All life comes from death, and death they shall bring. The Underan also learned to harness the storms as a weapon. From within, they could harness the energy, force and chaotic nature that drove the storms. They could grab it, channel it and hurl it with devastating power. The storm's power quickly overtook other forms of weaponry amongst the tribes who learned how to make apparatus to focus it and turn it into a weapon that would stand up against any made by their enemies. The Underan had found everything within the storms, and as long as they followed them, they remained alive beyond the Drakka. The storms, by their nature, are unpredictable; however, they can move and shift violently, increasing in speed or changing direction suddenly to bring massive stampedes hurtling into the territory of their enemies. They will not stop, they cannot stop, and the stampede aims to crush everything in its way.
