The Asylumists

Scarecrow

Much of Sythopia’s surface is littered with ruins. The cities that once engulfed the world were built from materials designed to endure far longer than the inhabitants who lived within them.

Before the cataclysm, the planet’s population boomed, and conventional construction upon its surface could no longer meet its needs. Sub-cities were carved beneath the overcrowded population hives, and when these too became saturated, new platforms and levels filled the skies, supporting ever more buildings.

Now, after an eternity of planet-shattering upheaval, the surface resembles a scrap heap more than a utopian sanctuary. Sections of the sky cities crashed to the ground an age ago, while vast swathes of the surface collapsed into the subsectors below. In the current age, travelling across the land is akin to navigating a labyrinth. Even flight is threatened by walls of shattered construction that reach thousands of feet into the blackened sky.

Within these dark and twisting spaces, the Scarecrows build their nests, gathering scrap, flesh and all manner of other materials with which to fashion them. Scarecrows are among the few self-sustaining Asylumists, unfettered by the Horde and untouched by the Tic Tox.

Each individual is unique in how it prepares, maintains and carries out its hunts, fashioning its weapons of death in different ways. Yet although every Scarecrow is different, the manner in which they hunt remains intimidatingly familiar.

Firing from afar with custom-built, long-range weapons, they pick off targets at will. Asylumist and non-Asylumist alike—all are fair game. When their prey finally identifies the source of the attack, the Scarecrow vanishes in an instant, only to fire again from another nest.

Another shot. Another kill.
