Phalanx is a unit special rule.

When a friendly unit is targeted by a shooting attack, that unit may treat a model with Phalanx as moving Cover for that attack if the Phalanx model is within 2 inches of the target unit and is positioned between the firing model and the target unit.

Phalanx grants +1 Cover for that attack. It does not stack with other Cover, and multiple Phalanx models do not provide additional Cover for the same attack.

Phalanx counts as Cover only for the incoming shooting attack it modifies. It does not block Line of Sight, change target legality, redirect attacks, affect melee, alter movement, change unit coherency, or change damage allocation unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.
