Splitting Units During Movement

During a turn, a unit may split into smaller groups.

To split a unit, assign it a command that includes movement, such as Move or Assault.

Select the number of models that will split from the original unit and move them more than 2 inches away from the original unit.

The split models must remain within normal coherency of each other during this movement unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.

Once the movement has resolved, the split models may carry out any additional action included in the command.

Restrictions And Sustained Damage

When a unit is split, any restrictions on the original unit are duplicated onto each resulting split unit.

Sustained Damage may be split between the resulting units.

A split unit cannot be assigned more Sustained Damage than the combined HP value of the models in that split unit.

Splitting Due To Damage Or Other Effects

Units may also be split due to enemy action or other effects during the game.

When a unit takes damage, models may be removed in a way that leaves the remaining models more than 2 inches away from each other.

If this occurs, the separated groups are considered split and each group acts as its own unit.

Split Unit Command Points

When units are split, they do not grant any additional Command Points.

A split unit must be combined to make use of any command given to a nearby unit.

Combining Units

If units with the same name come together, they may form a larger unit.

To combine units, assign a command that includes movement to one of those units and move it within 2 inches of the other unit.

If the command used has any other action, that action may only be carried out by the models the command was applied to.

Restrictions and Sustained Damage are carried over when units combine.

After the command is resolved, the larger group is treated as a single unit for rules purposes.

Notes

  • This file owns the general unit separation fallback.
  • If another rule gives a specific split, combine, coherency, casualty-removal, or scenario exception, use that rule.
  • Combining units does not retroactively apply the command's other action to models that were not assigned that command.
