Commands

Command Points

Command Points are the resource you spend to give orders to your units. Most commands cost 1 Command Point, and the scenario tells each player how many points they receive.

How it works

Command Points are the resource players spend to issue commands.

Each command costs 1 Command Point unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.

Gaining Command Points

At the start of each turn, each player gains Command Points as dictated by the scenario.

In a standard game, this is normally equal to the combined Threat Cost of that player's army.

Both players always receive the same number of Command Points unless a scenario explicitly states otherwise.

Spending Command Points

When a player issues a command, that player spends 1 Command Point.

A command may be issued during a unit's normal activation or at another permitted timing if a rule allows it.

A command declared in response to another command or event still costs 1 Command Point unless a rule explicitly states otherwise.

Spoils Of War

Spoils of War is the term for the last Command Point available in the turn.

A command issued by spending the Spoils of War Command Point cannot have a command declared in response to it unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.

Spoils of War does not change the command's cost, token, restrictions, or resolution unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.

Passing Instead Of Issuing A Command

If a player has a command opportunity but is unable or unwilling to issue a legal command, that player may discard 1 Command Point instead.

Discarding a Command Point this way does not issue a command and does not apply command tokens or command restrictions.

Discarding a Command Point consumes that player's command opportunity. The next command opportunity belongs to the opposing player under the normal activation loop.

Running Out Of Command Points

A player cannot issue a command if they have no Command Points remaining, unless a rule explicitly allows it.

If a player has no Command Points when their command opportunity occurs, skip that opportunity. If the opposing player still has Command Points, that player receives the next command opportunity. Continue until both players have no Command Points or no further command opportunity can be resolved.

Notes

  • Command Points define the cost of commands and the option to discard a Command Point instead of issuing a command.
  • Command tokens track issued commands and restrictions; use Tokens.
  • Command eligibility and restrictions are defined in Commands Restrictions.

Example

A player gives an eligible unit the Command Points command. Command Points are the resource players spend to issue commands. Once those steps are complete, play continues normally.
