Ownership

Vehicle rules are owned under core/vehicles/.

Current vehicle files own the following areas:

  • vehicle_core.md: vehicle-wide ownership, profile fields, hull, and routing.
  • vehicle_facings.md: facing determination and facing effects.
  • vehicle_damage.md: vehicle-specific damage procedure, system damage, HP 0 destruction, and wreckage routing.
  • vehicle_field_of_fire.md: vehicle weapon Field of Fire and Line of Sight exceptions.
  • vehicle_melee.md: vehicle-specific melee exceptions.
  • vehicle_terrain.md: vehicle terrain traversal, Cover reduction, collapse trigger, and movement-through-models exceptions.
  • vehicle_commands.md: vehicle command-layer rules such as Ramming Speed, Overcharge, and Overkill.
  • vehicle_special_rules.md: vehicle-specific special rules such as Shunt Field, Secondary Shielding, and Burst Barrier.
  • vehicle_destruction.md: support pointer to current destruction and wreckage ownership.

Core Rule

Vehicles use the normal core rules unless a vehicle rule explicitly states otherwise.

Vehicle rules should be read as targeted exceptions, not as a replacement for the full rules engine.

Vehicle Profile

A vehicle profile may include:

  • Type
  • Move
  • Shield
  • Resolve
  • HP
  • Facings
  • Weapons
  • Field of Fire

Vehicle profile fields are vehicle data. They are not currently part of the public OPDAT unit-profile schema unless Jason approves a later vehicle OPDAT pass.

Do not change existing OPDAT unit profiles when updating the vehicle framework.

Defensive Values

Vehicles use Shield as their main defensive value where vehicle rules say to use Shield.

Use modified Shield when modifiers apply to the vehicle's Shield value.

Vehicles still have Resolve and HP. Do not treat all references to Resolve or HP as automatically replaced unless the specific vehicle rule says so.

Current vehicle rules use Resolve and HP for some vehicle-specific procedures, including crew fallback defense, vehicle damage thresholds, Crush against vehicles, and Major System Damage.

Current Vehicle-Wide Exceptions

Current vehicle rules include these vehicle-wide exceptions:

  • Vehicles use Shield for vehicle defensive checks where a vehicle rule calls for Shield.
  • Resolve is still used where a vehicle rule specifically calls for Resolve.
  • HP is still used where a vehicle rule specifically causes HP loss or refers to remaining HP.
  • Vehicle damage replaces normal damage against vehicles unless another rule explicitly states otherwise.
  • Critical Damage against vehicles uses vehicle damage with the vehicle damage die treated as its maximum result.
  • Sustained Damage against vehicles reduces Shield by 1 per point.
  • Grievous Damage does not apply to vehicles unless a rule explicitly says how it applies.
  • The vehicle hull/profile defines listed facings and weapon Field of Fire.
  • Ramming Speed replaces Overrun for vehicles and is owned by vehicle_commands.md.

Hull And Facings

The hull or vehicle profile defines listed facings.

Facings are used for:

  • determining Field of Fire source points for vehicle weapons
  • determining system damage type when vehicle damage uses closest facing

Facing determination and facing effects are owned by vehicle_facings.md.

Current Parked Future Work

The following vehicle areas are not current rules unless Jason explicitly reopens them:

  • repair/recovery as future unit or ability work
  • terrain self-damage to vehicles
  • expanded wreckage or terrain removal rules
  • vehicle OPDAT profiles
  • vehicle customization or upgrade mechanics
  • moving through engaged models without a specific future rule

Notes

  • This file is an integration and routing file.
  • Do not add new vehicle mechanics here unless Jason approves the specific mechanic.
  • Use the narrower vehicle files for detailed vehicle procedures.
