When you can use this

Intervene may be declared immediately after an enemy unit declares a Charge, before that Charge begins movement.

The declaring unit must be an eligible friendly unit other than the original target of the triggering Charge.

The declaring unit must be within Intervene range of the enemy unit that declared the triggering Charge.

Intervene Range

Intervene range is the declaring unit's Run-distance movement allowance.

Run-distance movement is double the declaring unit's OPDAT Move value unless another rule explicitly modifies that unit's Run-distance movement.

Measure Intervene range using the normal distance rules.

When it happens

Intervene is an explicit timing exception.

If legally declared, Intervene resolves before the triggering Charge begins movement.

After Intervene resolves, the triggering Charge continues with the intervening unit added as a valid target of that Charge.

Choosing a target

Intervene targets the enemy unit that declared the triggering Charge.

The declaring unit must be legally able to charge that enemy unit when Intervene resolves.

How to resolve it

When Intervene resolves:

  1. The declaring unit performs a counter-charge against the enemy unit that declared the triggering Charge.
  2. The original target of the triggering Charge remains a valid target of that Charge.
  3. The intervening unit becomes an additional valid target of that Charge.
  4. After Intervene resolves, the charging unit continues resolving its Charge movement.
  5. The charging unit may move within 1 inch of models in the original target unit, the intervening unit, or both, as permitted by legal Charge movement.
  6. Resolve any resulting engagement according to Engagement.
  7. Resolve any resulting attacks according to Melee, then follow the normal Melee Timing rule.

Restrictions after use

After Intervene resolves, apply:

  • Shoot
  • Run
  • Defend

When you cannot use it

Intervene cannot be declared if:

  • the declaring unit already has any restriction this command applies
  • the declaring unit is otherwise ineligible to charge or intervene
  • the declaring unit is not within Intervene range for the triggering event
  • the declaring unit cannot legally target the charging enemy

Notes

  • Intervene is a command, not a separate reaction system.
  • Intervene does not cancel the original Charge.
  • Intervene resolves before the triggering Charge moves, so the intervening unit is a valid target before Charge movement is resolved.
  • Intervene allows the incoming Charge to contact the original target unit, the intervening unit, or both, as permitted by positioning and legal movement.
  • Intervene is intended to let a nearby unit block, support, or constrain an incoming Charge through positioning.
  • Use Timing for declaration and response timing.
  • Use Charge to define the exact movement and contact rules for charges involving multiple valid target units.

Example

A player gives an eligible unit the Intervene command. When Intervene resolves: The declaring unit performs a counter-charge against the enemy unit that declared the triggering Charge. The original target of the triggering Charge remains a valid target of that Charge. Once those steps are complete, play continues normally.
