Roll vs. Result
Description
A roll is the number shown on the die before modifiers are applied.
A result is the final value after all applicable modifiers have been applied.
Expanded Description
Some rules care about the natural number shown on the die. This is called the roll.
Other rules care about the final value after modifiers. This is called the result.
If a rule refers to the roll, use the unmodified number shown on the die.
If a rule refers to the result, apply all relevant modifiers first, then use the final value.
Example
A player rolls a D6 and the die shows a 4.
The roll is 4.
A rule gives +1 to that value.
The result is 5.
If a rule cares about the roll, use 4.
If a rule cares about the result, use 5.
