How Can We Help?
Measurements
In VoidSiege, measuring is always allowed unless a rule says otherwise. This guide outlines what can be measured, when, and how it applies during commands and reactions.
What Is Measuring?
Measuring is checking the distance between two points using a legal tool (in inches). You may measure:
- The distance between models
- Ranges for weapons or commands
- Movement distances
All measurements are in inches and are made from the closest point on one model to the closest point on the other, unless a rule specifies otherwise.
Step-by-Step: How Measuring Works
1. Declare What You Are Measuring
You may measure any distance unless restricted by a rule.
- Example: “I’m checking if I’m within 6″ for Intervene.”
2. Use Legal Tools
Measurements must use clearly marked tools. Laser lines or flexible tapes are allowed if agreed by both players.
3. Follow Game Flow
You may measure:
- Before declaring a command
- Before reacting to a command
- Before resolving movement
- During any range check, unless a specific rule prohibits it
Measuring in the Command Sequence
Step 1: Declare Command
- You may measure before declaring a command.
- If a command requires a target, you may measure to confirm eligibility.
Step 2: React
- The opponent may measure before declaring a response (e.g., Intervene, Move, Snap Fire).
Step 3: Resolve Movement
- Movement distances are measured in inches.
- Movement occurs according to the rules of the declared command.
Special Case: Charging
Charge is a special case with specific timing:
- The active player declares a Charge and names the target.
- The opponent may immediately react.
- If the opponent’s reaction includes movement (e.g., Move or Intervene), it resolves first.
- After the reaction, re-measure the distance.
- If the charging unit is within 1″ of the declared target (using closest point to closest point), the Charge succeeds and melee begins.
Key Rules to Remember
- Measuring is allowed at any time unless a rule says otherwise.
- Only use legal tools.
- Measure from the closest point on one model to the closest point on another.
- Opponent reactions resolve before Charge movement.
- Always re-check distances after reactions.
Tournament Summary: Measuring Protocol
- Players may measure at any time unless a rule explicitly forbids it.
Measurement Structure:
- Declare What You Are Checking
- Say what you’re measuring (e.g., “Is this within 6″?”).
- Use Inches and Agreed Tools
- Tools must be marked in inches.
- Any additional aids (e.g., laser lines) must be agreed upon before the game.
- Reactions and Charging
- Reactions to a Charge resolve first.
- Then re-measure for the Charge.
- Charge succeeds if still within 1″ (closest point to closest point).
Restrictions:
- No hidden measuring unless explicitly allowed.
- No measuring after a declaration that locks intent (e.g., if a Gambit forbids it).
Charge Measuring:
- Declare the Charge and target first.
- Reactions resolve.
- Re-measure using closest point to closest point.
- If within 1″, Charge succeeds.
