Moving
Description
Movement repositions models on the battlefield.
A model may move up to the distance allowed by the command or rule currently being resolved.
Expanded Description
Movement distances normally come from the unit’s OPDAT.
Unless a command or rule specifically says otherwise:
- Move-distance movement uses the unit’s Move value.
- Advance uses Move-distance movement.
- Run-distance movement is double the unit’s Move value.
- Run uses Run-distance movement.
- Assault uses Run-distance movement for its movement portion.
- Overrun uses Run-distance movement.
Movement does not require a target.
A model cannot move through or over another model unless a rule specifically allows it.
A model cannot end movement within 2 inches of an enemy model unless a rule specifically allows it.
Models in a unit must remain in legal coherency during and after movement unless a rule specifically allows them to split.
Measure the full path travelled, including upward vertical movement where relevant.
If a model moves less than 2 inches during a command that includes movement, it has Shunted. A unit that has Shunted keeps Cover bonuses it would normally lose for moving.
VoidSiege has no locked in combat state. A unit within 1 inch of an enemy model may still Move or Run away normally unless another rule specifically says otherwise.
Example
A unit is issued a Move command.
The unit uses its OPDAT Move value to determine how far it may move.
Each model moves along a legal path, measuring the full route travelled.
The models cannot move through other models, cannot end within 2 inches of enemy models unless allowed, and must stay in unit coherency.
If the unit moves less than 2 inches, it has Shunted and keeps Cover bonuses it would normally lose for moving.
FAQ
Q: Where does a unit’s movement distance come from?
A: It normally comes from the unit’s OPDAT, unless the command or rule says otherwise.
Q: Does movement need a target?
A: No. Movement does not require a target.
Q: Can a model move through another model?
A: No, unless a rule specifically allows it.
Q: Can a model end movement close to an enemy model?
A: A model cannot end movement within 2 inches of an enemy model unless a rule specifically allows it.
Q: Do models in a unit need to stay together?
A: Yes. Models must remain in legal unit coherency during and after movement unless a rule specifically allows splitting.
Q: Does vertical movement count?
A: Upward movement counts toward total movement where relevant. Descending does not cost movement unless another rule specifically says otherwise.
Q: What happens if full movement is not possible?
A: Resolve as much legal movement as possible. If no legal movement can be made, the movement part of the effect fails.
Q: Can a unit move away from close combat?
A: Yes. VoidSiege has no locked in combat state, so a unit within 1 inch of an enemy model may still Move or Run away unless another rule says otherwise.
Q: When is a unit no longer engaged?
A: If, after movement resolves, the unit is more than 1 inch away from all enemy models, it is no longer engaged.
Q: What is Shunting?
A: If a unit moves less than 2 inches during a command that includes movement, it has Shunted and keeps Cover bonuses it would normally lose for moving.
